MIRANDA
SATC Miranda - Tile

FASHION
Miranda's ambition and drive to be a successful, independent woman are traits that were useful when it came to developing her fashion aptitude. It's always a good idea when fine-tuning your style personality to play on (or play WITH) who you are. Amplify what you have instead of performing a complete style 180 or trying to be someone else. A dramatic transformation that's not true to yourself won't come natural and you'll probably just look uncomfortable instead of interesting and innovative.

Just like the rest of the cast, and every real-life woman, Miranda's body-image insecurities were a constant influence in the life of her character. However, her style choices and the way everything she adorned from head to foot-wear complimented the best parts about her body and personality. Being the busy, brainy, organized, best-friend and member of the SATC foursome, Miranda had an admirable ability to fuse business-appropriate, functional and transitional apparel with a flair of trend that always accentuated her assets.

If you can relate to Miranda, take a page from her picture book of fashion and incorporate these tips into your wardrobe:

  • Revealing the neckline - Miranda's chest was modest in size but perky and her soft fair skin made that area one of her best body parts. You could often find Miranda attending a party or a gala, street-shopping with her gals and gays, or on a date... Sure the date would subsequently reveal some odd flaw in the man Miranda was having tuna rolls with and Carrie's narration would develop a strange new breed of man popping up all over NYC called the "Chatty-Momma's-Boy-Over-Tuna-Rolls-Guy". BUT, and props to Miranda, every New York woman that ever told the "Chatty-Momma's-Boy-Over-Tuna-Rolls-Guy" story, always properly depicted the guy's date as a "beautifully-refined-read-head-with-fire-behind-her-eyes-adorning-a-perfectly-tailored-bold-in-color-dress-with-plunge-neckline-showing-a-peep-of-her-young-inticing-curves". And THAT'S what we're getting at here ladies. If your best asset is your chest, Miranda has outfit after outfit ideas for you to pull inspriation from.

        • Primary colors are TRUE colors - Miranmda did a great dob when it came to showing her true colors and she did so by sticking with primary colors, that is: red, blue and yellow and any versions away from them aren't far.
      • Large belts are to Miranda's wardrobe, what the G-string is to Samantha's....the best go-to accessory that you can trust will pull it all together.
  • Large and bold patterns, not small foral or prints - The oversized patterned dresses Miranda loves, truly love her back. With so many hours spent in the board room with all the taupe jackets over pleated pants and loafers, it's no wonder Miranda wants to remember how incredibly fun is to be a woman. Her big black and white patterned dress is a traffic stopper. Which is good...because she's probably wearing it while hailing a cab.
  • Dressing smart - Miranda's skin, with its even tone and milky fair sheen tells us in every episode that it is protected from harsh sunlight. If you too are cautious about sun exposure, then check out a couple of Miranda's fashion/function sun accessories.
HOME
If our homes are an extension of our personality and I described Miranda's style above as so: Being the busy, brainy, organized, best-friend and member of the SATC foursome, Miranda had an admirable ability to fuse business-appropriate, functional and transitional apparel with a flair of trend that always accentuated her assets...I would say her home reflected those same combinations: an organized space with functional rooms and room flow and just the right amount of flair like her wall art. You may remember the episode where Miranda struggled a bit to make her home more inviting and she spent a lot of efforts updating her bedroom. Starting with your bedroom is a great way for the DIY'er to take what may be a cold, lifeless space/room and transform in into a cozy, romantic yet clean and organized get-away.
Since Miranda is a no-clutter type of DIY'er, she enjoys basic, light wall colors with subtle decor usually outshined by one big, eye-catching piece. Throw out the bling on top of feather couch pillows that you love because they go with the fake chandelier you and your old roomate painted behind your couch before you rhinestoned the heck out of it. All of this goes!

If you can relate to Miranda, take a page from her picture book of home style and incorporate these tips into your home improvement:
  • Stay neutral when it comes to wall color - People seem to not understand that not every room has to be a different color. In Fact, rooms of the same color, if the right color, have a flow that makes the entire space look open and bigger. Especially if you have dark floors like Miranda, light paint in halls is necessary or you'll be going for that "dungeon" look.
  • Choose wall art very particulary - You don't achieve Miranda's clean home look with lots of knick knacks and framed photos all over the place. Try to stick to just a few framed art pieces that have some sort of theme.
  • MIRROR! Find one cool mirror piece and make it the focal piece of art like Miranda's "Sun Mirror" above her fireplace mantel. Mirrors, again, instantly make a room look bigger.
